You’ll find Cadiz on a small slither of land surrounded by the sea on Spain’s western coast. For Suzy and I, this is our second time here and we are looking forward to visiting this city again. Cadiz has a great history, founded by the Phoenicians in 1104BC; it is the oldest continuously inhabited city in Spain. You’ll also find that the city is home to the Spanish Navy dating to the 18th Century.
Cadiz has many historical and well preserved landmarks. The city walls around Old Town are quite a site. As you walk down narrow alleys you’ll find yourself wandering back into history. Many of these alleyways have connecting walls between buildings with great archways that are reminiscent of the way the town was protected from invaders. Other areas have larger avenues and modern buildings that provide a pleasant mix of old and new. When wandering around Cadiz you’ll find plenty of shops selling local wares of hand painted porcelain along with restaurants offering some of the finest Spanish cuisine. Cadiz offers some really great parks, they seem to be everywhere. You can enjoy your stroll around the city, stop in at a park, sit a while and just enjoy. You’ll find the parks full of some really beautiful exotic flowers and greenery and the trees, some of which are huge, are touted to have been brought back to the city by Columbus when he explored the New World. Suzy and I just enjoy it here….
