Travel Update: Spring 2016
This is our third year of being vagabonds traveling the globe. Once you’ve been bitten by the travel bug you might as well give in to it, there is nothing like it. While cruising across the Atlantic one year we saw inside an elevator the words: The value of travel is the amount of baggage you leave behind……… Suzy and I agree whole heartedly, and we have never been happier.
This year’s journey begins April 15 in Ft Lauderdale where we boarded the cruise ship; The Celebrity Equinox. Since this ship is our fourth ship we sailed on, we can tell you that by far, Suzy and I agree this ship was a great choice. Last year it was Princess lines, Regal Princess. This was a blockbuster floating city that held right at 4000 people. The ship was beautiful and well equipped, but there is a tradeoff. When you maneuvered around the Regal Princess it was like being at the Mall on a Saturday afternoon. Way too many people to enjoy a leisurely voyage. The Celebrity Equinox can board just over half that many people and we found it a very enjoyable voyage. We were bound for Punta Delgada, a small Portuguese volcanic island that is really beautiful. This is a typical stop by cruise ships headed east to Europe. Most ships stop here as it is 10 days of endless cruising across the Atlantic before you once again see land. Suzy and I have been here now three times and we’ve enjoyed it every time. After Punta Delgada, two more days at sea before we dock in Lisbon, Portugal. We’re excited to be able to see Lisbon; it is one of those places that you need to really plan to go there, unless you’re already on the west coast of Spain. From Lisbon we traveled to Cadiz, Spain. Then off to Malaga, Spain, Alicante, Spain, and lastly, Barcelona, Spain where we got off ship and made our way around the city.
Suzy and I plan to spend quite a bit of time in Barcelona, there is so much to see and enjoy here. After Barcelona, who knows? We never plan that far ahead. As we continue our 2016 adventure I will be sure to post videos as we go along. We hope you enjoy them.
