Suzy has always been a beach lover and Thailand has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. We heard of Pattaya Beach last year while traveling to Thailand’s small islands and this year we were intent on finding out just what this beach was all about. The word on the street is that Pattaya was a small community until the Vietnam War came about. During the war, about 500 servicemen were driven to Pattaya for some greatly needed R&R. These servicemen rented houses, had a great time and spread the word of this small place to other servicemen. The rest is history as Pattaya grew as a great beach destination. When Suzy and I arrived we had high hopes for this beach. After visiting Koh Phangnan, Koh Samui, Koh Phi Phi and Phuket last year, we expected pristine beach and clear waters. Unfortunately this was not the case. We found the waters to be quite murky by most standards; in fact, Suzy did not want to swim in these waters. To remedy this situation, we heard that there was a charter boat that could take you to Koh Larn, a small island that was touted to be quite pretty. You can see the beach in our video here. Nevertheless, the beach in Pattaya was still beautiful and we enjoyed the area. Nightlife in Pattaya is about four notches less than Phuket, this however would not deter your interests in all of those items available here. You can still take your pick of almost anything you desire in the evening. Walking along Beach Road after the sun goes down is a treat in itself. If you like to be entertained by street walkers, here you’ll find at least two every three feet or so and they will be lined up for about a half mile.. Big, Tall, Skinny, Fat, Beautiful, Ugly, Sleazy, Gay, they are all here and ready and able to make a deal for whatever you might have in mind. Thailand is famous for all this and it’s all part of Thai life. If you’re more of the discrete type, you can go in for a massage at one of the massage shops and barter for a “make happy”……..
If you keep an open mind and mind your own business, all will be well and you can enjoy the sun by day and the bars, clubs and restaurants this area has to offer. Suzy and I found it to be different and enjoyable.
