Just West of Pattaya you’ll find the tiny island of Koh Larn. When I say tiny, it is just that, only 2.5 miles long by 1.5 miles wide. A private sanctuary for beach and snorkeling lovers. Thailand has long since been known as having beautiful islands. Last year Suzy and I visited three of these islands. This year we are continuing our adventures with Koh Larn. We boarded a small charter boat and set off on our 45 minute trip. There’s not much to do on this island and really no reason to go there unless you’re an adventurist. Our boat approached the island and immediately you can see its mountainous terrain. On the shore you’ll find some small houses of the locals and lots of beach umbrellas and chairs. Public ferries arrive about once an hour and carry about 40 people. Most have reservations with a power boat rental to go exploring. But some of us just wanted to enjoy the uninhabited beauty of the island, kick back, relax and perhaps do some swimming in the islands crystal clear waters. Suzy and I grabbed a chaise lounge rental with umbrella about 30 feet from the water. Here you can really feel that you’ve left civilization and are roughing it. You can get a beer here from a beach bar owner, but that’s about all you can get. Just sit and enjoy. You’ll feel like Gilligan for a few hours but can rest easy in knowing you’ve got a ride back to shore as the sun sets.
