Suzy and I really enjoyed Vienna. We found the city to be very inviting and just fun to be there. We spent several hours just wandering the Peoples Garden. There you’ll find hundreds of varieties of roses and an abundance of flowers to accompany them. The park was just wonderful and it was easy to see that everyone there was enjoying themselves. While in Vienna Suzy had one thing she just had to do, that was to visit the Spanish Riding School that trained the Lipizzaner Stallions. This had been a childhood dream of Suzy’s to visit these horses so we purchased a ticket to tour the facility and learn all we were able to absorb in one visit. In the 16th century, the Habsburg’s ruled over Spain and Austria and started this breed because they wanted a strong and agile war horse. These horses are born black and later turn gray as they mature. While war was sweeping Europe the school was moved to Vienna to secure their future. Eight Stallions are attributed to the bloodline that began in the late 18th and early 19th century. Suzy and I found these horses incredibly talented and amazing to watch. You don’t have to be an animal lover to enjoy the show and appreciate the work the school is doing.
Vienna has long been called the City of Music. One of the items on my list was to actually attend a concert by the Vienna Symphony Orchestra. The concert was held in the original concert hall and was really quite small by concert hall standards of today. Because it was small, the concert became far more personal and enjoyable. It was certainly thrill to complete a lifetime goal such as this.
As you wander around the city from place to place you’ll enjoy the architecture of the buildings. Around every corner you’ll find a different building to catch your eye and enjoy. Be sure to keep your eyes open and see all that is around you, if you look too long at all the wonderful structures, you’ll miss the opulent courtyards that seem to be tucked into every turn of the corner. Vienna is one of those places you can’t seem to get enough of. It has a lot to offer and can meet the expectations of every visitor. We enjoyed this city immensely and will return again soon.
