Founded as a fishing village in the 10th century, Copenhagen became the countries capital in the 15th century. After suffering a plague and great fire in the 18th century the city began its redevelopment which included the district of Fredericksstaden along with establishing the Royal Theatre and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts. It is one of the major financial centers of Northern Europe with the Copenhagen Stock Exchange. The city has some of the largest institutions in Europe which include the University of Copenhagen, the Technical University of Denmark and the Copenhagen Business School. There is quite a lot to see in Copenhagen so we managed our day carefully before boarding ship for Oslo. We managed to see the Kings Garden, the changing of the guard, Rosenborg Castle and take in a canal boat tour of Nyhavn where you’ll find all the bright colored buildings and old mast ships.
