Suzy and I arrived Koh Phi Phi via ferry and as we approached, we knew this island was something special. You’ll find beautifully blue water and silky white sand beaches against a backdrop of huge stone faced mountains and greenery abound. We stayed at PP Nice Hotel; it’s not really a hotel, but a string of beach bungalows just 50 feet from the surf. The natural beauty of this island is amazing, you’ll feel like you’ve gone back in time as you enjoy the simple life here. Relax, enjoy the surf, read a book, go scuba diving. When you get hungry, take a walk to any of the 100’s of restaurants ready to serve you anything from the traditional Thai foods, Western burgers, or indulge in Indian cuisine. Since Suzy and I left the US, I have had a craving for a Jelly Donut and a “real” cup of coffee. You’ll find it here at the Phi Phi Bakery, along with French Toast, Eggs Benedict and other US delights. We were pleasantly surprised.
Koh Phi Phi is an island making a comeback. On December 26, 2004 a Tsunami destroyed more than 70% of this island. Now in 2014, the island is still a work in progress. On every turn you’ll find construction of shops and hotels, it’s not all new construction, it’s rebuilding of the old originals. You’ll find the Thai people are resilient and glad to help you enjoy their Island in any way. If you’re looking for a wonderfully friendly Island paradise, this place is it.
