Milan is home to more than 1.3 million Italians. I find Milan far more interesting than Rome. You’ll find it calm, clean and far more structured. There’s a saying that the Romans think that the Milanese do not know how to enjoy life and the Milanese think the Romans are lazy…….. Well perhaps. Since Suzy and I have visited both cities now we have to say that for touristy site seeing places, Rome is the place to see, If you have to stay and live in a city, then Suzy and I agree, Milan is the place to live. Milan is called the fashion capital, there is a lot going on here as far as business. This is not to say that you cannot walk around the city, take in the sites and enjoy a Gelato along the way, there is plenty to see here. The Cathedral of Milan is a magnificent achievement started in 1386 and taking almost 600 years to complete. The city of Milan is centered around this Cathedral, all roads either circle this cathedral or radiate outwards from it. To be able to stand in front of this cathedral is a wonderment in itself. Everywhere you look you will find Gothic architecture at its best. You can easily see how it took 600 years to complete and as we speak, restoration is still ongoing. If you are inclined, you may adopt a Gargoyle sitting atop one of the gables. For a mere $135,000.00 you can have your name engraved below it as a benefactor towards his eternal good health and long life. Just so you know, the Gargoyle itself is not without a purpose, other than its mystical purposes, they also serve as a drainage pipe for the roof. Within the interior of the cathedral a small red light bulb in the dome above the apse marks the spot where one of the nails reputedly from the Crusifiction of Christ has been placed. The Holy Nail is retrieved and exposed to the public every year, during a celebration known as the Rite of the Nivola. When in Italy, Suzy and I agree, do not miss seeing Milan.
