When speaking to people about Italy, Florence is touted to be the most beautiful place to see. It is a touristy place to go and see, it has the grandeur of the city and beautiful buildings, Florence seems to have it all…… all except the inviting aura of serenity and beauty that Suzy and I have come to enjoy about Italy. Florence is half as busy as Rome and has twice the beauty of Rome, but for Suzy and I, we have been to quite a few places that are more inviting and are calling you to come back and stay. Florence has also been associated with the photo of the “old bridge”. This colorful bridge with buildings built above it has probably been seen in quite a few books and is a “must see” when in Florence. You’ll be surprised to find out that the buildings on the bridge are not residences, just high end jewelry shops with offices above. If you’re into items of gold, this is the spot. If you are looking for leather goods, Florence has it. You can purchase handbags and jackets in every shape and size. There are shops abound with all sorts of leather goods in every color imaginable. All you need to do is bring your wallet, and the Florentines will quickly empty it as you will pay a hefty price for the item you’ve fallen in love with. I guess as a New Yorker, I am used to getting jackets and wallets at a price that will not hurt you, If you are from a place that does not have these niceties at your fingertips, you’ll find Florence a Mecca for just about anything leather. The right place to buy would be the central market, an outside bazaar full of items of every kind. Even if you’re not buying, this is the place to walk, spend a few hours, have a look and enjoy a Gelato.
